Neuromas are swollen nerves, which most often occur on the ball of the right foot. These are characterized by tingling, pain, a burning sensation, or even numbness of the toes. Many people compare the sensation to walking with a pebble in one’s shoe. Sensitivity of the swollen nerve is exacerbated by anything that pinches or compresses it. Consequently, wearing shoes that fit properly can alleviate some of the discomfort resulting from neuromas. In those cases where the discomfort is great, however, podiatrists can be of particular help. After diagnosing the presence of a neuroma, a podiatrist can custom-tailor a strategy for treating the condition that takes into consideration both your schedule and your lifestyle.
